Positano would have to be one of the most magical places I have visited, it will always hold a special place in my heart not only because it is where we got married but because it is a town like no other. The small seaside town is made up of a brilliant contrast of vibrant coloured houses brimmed by the dramatic blue Mediterranean Sea. It won't matter if you spend a day or a month this seaside wonder will have you dreaming of your return.
Getting there
If your travelling from Rome the quickest and cheapest way to get to Positano is to take a train to Salerno or Naples followed by a ferry.
We ended up hiring a driver to accommodate our large group, this option allowed us to be able to visit Pompeii on the way through. If you love history Pompeii is a must, you could easily spend a whole day here. I would recommend going early in the day as it gets extremely hot.
Where to eat
There are endless amazing restaurants in Positano but they can be expensive, you will be charged around 3 euro to even just sit at a restaurant. If eating out every night isn't in your budget there are some really good takeaway pizza shops in town. The one directly across from the main bus stop in Positano sells very large family-size pizzas for only 10 Euros and it is only steps away from the the best gelato shop which has over 50 flavours to choose from.
Things to see:
There are endless things to do while visiting, you can spend 2 whole days walking around the town alone exploring the stores, restaurants and beaches. If venturing to neighboring towns is more your thing you can catch a bus or ferry.
While we were there we visited Amalfi, Furore and Ravelo. One of my most favourite spots was Furore a small pebble beach 1000 stairs down in between the cliffs. Another must-see which is a little less touristy but a locals favourite is Ravelo. Ravelo is a hidden gem located up in the hills and complete with the most stunning mountain views and blooming gardens.
Tips
We found out pretty quickly the beautiful coloured chairs that lined the pebble shores are not cheap they are around 25 euro per chair, although in the late afternoon they didn't charge.
The Amalfi Coast should be on everyone's bucket list, I am already planning our next trip.
